PAINTING: 'PAGE 3 GIRLS' 2008-09

'The Sun' newspaper, Willem De Kooning, the crisis of western capitalism, the celebrity  glamour world and the explosion in belly button piercings inspired these paintings. Within each one Le Rougetel parodies The Sun's 'News In Briefs' and faces and headlines from The Sun poke out at you.

For example for Sophie from Bristol it says

''Sophie is a modern girl. She likes coq au vin and says 'I hope you like my tits'.''

One 'News In Briefs' simply  says 'Botox' and another

''Nikki was sorry to read the latest report on poverty published by the Rowntree Foundation. She says 'Why is it the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and poorer under New Labour?!''

They are all approx 46'' x 60 '' and are a mix of oils, newspaper, charcoal and belly button rings on loose cotton canvas. They were painted over 4 months 2008/2009.
