SCULPTURE: 'Coke Heads' 2008-10       «<

In late 2008 Le Rougetel developed an addiction for making ceramic primitive heads. Their collective pronoun soon became 'Coke Heads'. Imagine collapsed septums and you'll be on the the right lines. These troubled, yet beautiful heads are aesthetc objects first and foremost, but if you had to come up with some kind of bullshit about what they mean one might say that they act as a metaphor for the the culture of drug dependency that pervades and drives society in much of the world.  With narcotics abuse there's always a downside to the upside and Le Rougetel's 'Coke Heads' perfectly reflect this. Their subtle, bumpy crania are spontaneous, the trace of Le Rougetel's hand bursts through the glaze. Like the best in design each 'Coke Head' is completely unique and 'works' from every angle, like some old vintage car.

It is thought that 58 'Coke Heads' were made in total between November 2008 and May 2010.
